New Parent Support Program
 
The New Parent Support Program is an intensive prevention and outreach program that offers in-home visits, parenting education classes, information and referrals for the Marine Corps community to active duty families who are either expecting a child, or have children under the age of 6.  The New Parent Support Program is a professional team of Clinical Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists and Registered Nurses who are experienced in newborn care, infant/child development, parent education, as well as the unique challenges faced by military families.

Through a variety of programs, the New Parent Support Program can help families adjust to having a new baby in the home, cope with stress, isolation, pre and post deployment, reunification, and the everyday demands of parenting in the military.

Home Visits


Home Visits are available to military families with children under the age of 6.  Our professional staff provides individualized parenting education and support to help parents increase their skills.  Home visits can take place in the home, our office or any other location where you are comfortable.


Home Visitors provide education on a variety of topics which include, but are not limited to:  age appropriate discipline, age appropriate play, effective communication, stress management, nutrition, deployment issues, SIDS, newborn care, sibling rivalry, toilet training and many more.

Baby Boot Camp


Baby Boot Camp is a class for expectant active duty member and their spouses.  The class covers everything a parent needs to know to take care of their newborn, as well as information on resources for the whole family.  Topics include the role of a parent, developmental stages of infants, basic infant care, child safety and pre and postpartum emotions.  Classes are held once a month from 0900-1600.  Please call for dates, registration, and location.


Parenting Classes


The New Parent Support Program offers a 9-week, court approved Parenting Class series for parents with children under the age of 6.  Each class has a different topic including safety, communication, discipline, self-esteem and structure.  All nine classes must be completed within one year to receive a certificate of completion.  Please call for class dates, location and times.

Who is eligible for services?


All active duty families who are expecting a child or have at lease on child under the age of 6 are eligible to participate in the New Parent Support Program.
